Hey there, great game! I even bought the physical version from your Etsy store, though I managed to get this error message after going back to the game after putting my analogue Pocket in sleep mode.

Hi, thanks so much for buying the game! This is not the first time there were problems with one of my games on the Pocket, but sadly I don't know how to fix it.

I could export the game again especially for the Pocket, but I'm not sure that would fix it. (I think it just allows to load it directly from the SD card)

I haven't seen the same error since, so hopefully it's a one-off. But I'll get hold of you if it comes back up again.

I'm trying to play the tutorial, but it freezes and won't respond to commands? Is the control scheme Z/X/Arrows/Enter, as normal?

Thanks for playing Hidden Gems!

Alt is the A button and Ctrl the B button in this game.

Can't get enough of puzzle games on the GB(C) and this one is very well made!

I love puzzle games and this game is great. I bought it on Etsy. 😁

Thanks so much for your purchase! I'm glad you like it. A rating on Etsy would be very appreciated. :)

Ok!

Very nice. I feel like either 5x5 board or on-board fusion or disappearing black card after playing it would be even better, because the round is so short right now

Thanks for the suggestions. 5x5 would be difficult to realize without shrinking the cards. On-board fusion is an interesting idea, I'll think about it. If black cards disappeared, that would mean that matches could take forever, as it is rather easy to create black cards and they currently connect in all four directions.

If there's on-board fusion, black card solution is right here - black cards do not disappear, but they can be created on board. That might add some "screw him".

Maybe i'm still figuring out the game, but for now i dont really feel like im playing against someone, more like alongside.

Now i'm starting to wish for few bonus cards just to attack each other, something like "deal braker" from monopoly deal or "no u" from uno memes

The design goal of the game was to have as few cards as possible, but still have a lot of depth. Adding special cards would kinda defeat that purpose, but I'll think it over some more. Thanks again for your feedback. 😊

Thanks!

Now I have finally had time to play your game and I am absolutely blown away by how complex it turned out. I would not even know how to manipulate the background tiles to show the correct cards and somehow even managed to teach five different levels of AI how to to play the game with different skill levels. Also the tutorial was very easy to follow and understand. This is just amazing! And with the randomization of drawn cards, this game has almost infinite replay value. The only thing I was kind of missing was different sound effects for different amounts of points gained so that the high fusioned cards sound more rewarding than the regular ones. Other than that the game is perfect in my opinion.

Thanks so much for your comment, it means especially much from someone who's game I really admire.

Regarding sound effects, I added them on the last day and they could be much better, I think. This is one of the points I want to tackle whenever my energy has refilled a little more. Thanks for the suggestion with the points, I hadn't thought of that before. :)

Excellent puzzle game! Its got a deceptively large amount of depth to it and all the more impressive to see this level of compelixity (especially with the AI) implemented in GB Studio. The level of polish with moving the pieces and watching them get destroyed offers some great game feel and the customisation options are impressive too. This would have been so hard to code haha! It's a bit long to wait for the AI to do its thing on DMG though but not a deal breaker.

Fantastic job!

Thanks so much for your nice comment.

The AI definitely made me think of giving up a few times. πŸ˜…

I tried to make it run in parallel while the player made their move, but couldn't get it to run smoothly, so I had to live with the long waiting times. At least it does get better the further you are into a match, as there are less and less options for the AI to consider.

But this is an area I absolutely want to polish some more (after some time off).

Having a lot of fun with this one! It took a few tries and some patience to work out the rules even after the tutorials, but once it clicked I was having a blast! At first things felt too tough on the lowest difficulty but after I better understood the game I got much better and the difficulty felt right! Cranking up the difficulty once I got good was no joke either. I appreciate the multiple levels of difficulty,  as it keeps me coming back! While grid/tile based competitive games have existed for ages now, this is an innovative and refreshing take, and I will definitely continue to play!

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Getting the tutorial right was definitely hard (and I feel I haven't succeeded completely). My initial plan was to make it playable, but time ran out.

No problem!

Once I understood what constitutes a match it made much more sense! Such a solid submission really!

I really enjoy these type of puzzle/strategy games. And this game is nothing short of awesome. It’s such a straightforward concept but it generates hours of fun. And the fact that you used GBStudio for this is inspiring.

Really good work!

Thanks a lot! I learnt a lot of new things during this jam. GB Studio really has so much to offer.

This may be the most mechanically complex GB Studio game I've ever come across. And more importantly, it's fun. Setting a new standard for puzzle games for me.

Wow, thanks so much for your comment, this means a lot! I've wanted to make a card game for years and I'm very happy that I finally found the time and motivation. 😊
